How does EDM work?
Different people have different needs depending on who they are and where they live. EDM starts by understanding people’s specific development needs and local context, and what the project developers want to achieve – be that a local government developing a energy plan or a business wanting to sell a particular product or service.
Through a systematic, six step process (see below), the target end users and other stakeholders prioritise their needs and identify the gaps or barriers preventing them being met. These gaps can involve energy (for instance, farmers may lack access to power and irrigation systems) but also other, non-energy factors (farmers may be faced by high input costs or have few market opportunities). EDM then works with end users and other stakeholders to develop holistic, context-appropriate and fully costed solutions to meet their needs.
